Alex Turvill
The Go-to-Gym Physiotherapist
Since graduating with 1st Class Honours in Physiotherapy, Alex has gained a strong reputation of being a thorough, compassionate and person-centred clinician that always goes above and beyond for his patients. As a former national judo champion, British University 60m sprint gold medallist and county hockey player, he has now shifted his focus towards helping others optimise their performance and recover from injury. This interest in sports performance and injury rehab eventually led Alex to pursue an MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine which he successfully completed in 2021.
Alongside his role in the NHS where he has been exposed to a variety of complex musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and neurological disorders, Alex has extensive experience of working in elite sport and has worked with a number of high-profile clubs around the North East including Tynedale RFC, Newcastle Thunder and North Tyneside Barbells. Since 2017 however Alex has primarily been working as part of the medical team for the Newcastle Eagles, the most successful British Basketball team of all-time, and is now also medical lead for their elite U19 academy programme.
In addition to his work in the NHS and elite sport, Alex has over a decade of experience in strength and conditioning, is a Level 4 Personal Trainer and is a qualified sports nutritionist making him an extremely well-rounded clinician. He has a passion for professional development and has completed numerous training courses with the UKSCA, British Weightlifting and the Clean Health Fitness Institute, and is currently working towards his FIFA Sports Medicine Diploma and various sports nutrition modules for the physique athlete.
